Headstones are extremely interesting to me, especially older and/or more elaborate headstones. It is odd that I first think about how much it would cost and secondly, why? Was it a religious reason? Or maybe because it is because our final resting place is something that we place importance on in our society?

Over the past year and a half, I have been helping my father with our family tree. Part of this process involves going to cemeteries and taking pictures of headstones of family members who have passed away. In the midst of this process, I have encountered many graves that are interesting and/or unusual. Now that I am assisting others with their family tree journey, I have had the chance to encounter more unusual and unique headstones. While they aren't what most people think of as art or interesting, I think headstones have a lot to show us about our past and society.
